But First, Coffee Experience

March 11, 2025

Ahh, that smell! It’s like the world’s most inviting wake-up call—comfort, nostalgia, and anticipation, all rolled into one. The rich, warm aroma of coffee. It doesn’t just signal the start of a new day; it’s an invitation to something more. It draws you in, promising that first sip that will spark your focus, creativity, and energy.

For me, coffee is much more than a drink. It’s also the fuel that powers my writing, ideas, and projects. It’s the ultimate Go Try Do (GTD) companion, a catalyst for action and exploration. Just like this blog, coffee is a gateway—a bridge to new experiences, big ideas, and small moments of discovery. That’s why it’s the perfect subject for this blog’s first post.

Coffee opens doors. When you take that first sip, you’re not just tasting a beverage; you’re opening yourself up to the world. Each cup tells a story—whether it’s Turkish coffee with its rich cultural history, Vietnamese iced coffee with its bold sweetness, or the reverent Ethiopian coffee ceremony that connects you to a centuries-old tradition. With every brew, you’re invited to step into someone else’s world, explore new places, and uncover unique traditions.

And just like the GTD spirit, coffee encourages exploration. Ever tried Dalgona, or whipped coffee? What about coffee cupping? It’s like tasting a piece of the world one bean at a time. Flavors of chocolate, fruit, flowers, or smoke swirl. Together in a rich tapestry that leaves you appreciating the complexity of each brew. Coffee is an invitation to learn, grow, and experience the world on a whole new level, one cup at a time.

Motivation for Action

Coffee does more than fuel the body, however, it stimulates the mind. It sharpens focus, sparks clarity, and powers through projects with a sense of purpose. It’s that perfect ally when you’re tackling something big, whether it’s finishing a chapter, launching a new idea, or brainstorming the next big thing. Similar to GTD, coffee gives you that nudge to begin, to continue, and to push yourself further.

It’s also a connector. Coffee brings people together. Whether it’s catching up with friends, brainstorming with colleagues, or just enjoying a quiet conversation. Coffeehouses have long been the backdrop for innovation, change, and connection. Explicitly, it’s a place where ideas flow freely and relationships grow stronger with every shared cup.

Exploration of Personal Limits

And just like GTD, coffee challenges us to step outside the ordinary. From experimenting with new brewing techniques—French press, Aeropress, pour-over—to adding unique spices like cinnamon or cardamom, coffee encourages us to try something new. It pushes boundaries, opens minds, and reminds us that even the smallest changes can lead to extraordinary results.

Coffee also has this beautiful way of teaching us to slow down. The ritual of brewing it, the warmth of the cup cradled in your hands, the comforting aroma filling the air. It’s a mindful moment that invites us to appreciate the here and now. It’s about savoring life’s simple pleasures. Just like GTD teaches us to embrace the moment, to be present, and to find joy in the journey.

Tool for Good

But the beauty of coffee doesn’t stop there. It has the power to create positive change. From memory cafes, to fundraising coffee mornings to hosting workshops for underserved communities, coffee can bring people together for something bigger than themselves. It has the potential to foster connections, spark conversations, and make a difference in the world. A great example of this is A Sip of Hope in Chicago. It is the world’s first coffee where 100% of the proceeds support proactive suicide prevention and mental health education and all of their baristas are trained in mental health first aid.

The Journey

In the end, coffee is more than a beverage. It’s a reminder that life is full of possibilities—whether that’s a new idea, a deeper connection, or an exciting adventure waiting to be explored. Like Go Try Do, coffee encourages us to move forward, try new things, and make the world a better place—one sip at a time.
